Digital X-Ray

One of the ways that we are able to provide efficient and accurate care is through the use of digital x-rays. Digital x-rays are a more technologically advanced form of x-ray that provides clear images of your teeth and jaws within seconds. The benefits of digital x-rays over traditional x-rays include:

3D Cone Beam Imaging

In some cases, a traditional x-ray just isn’t enough. When more detailed imaging is needed, we turn to 3D cone beam imaging. This technology provides clear and precise images of the teeth, jaws, nerve pathways, and surrounding structures. This information is vital when planning certain dental procedures or identifying problems that are not visible by other means. The 3D cone beam may be utilized to:

  • Diagnose oral pathologies
  • Assess jaw joint function
  • Plan restorative procedures
  • Detect and monitor gum disease

3D cone beam imaging is an important tool that we use to provide our patients with the best possible care. This technology allows us to quickly get a clear picture of what is going on inside your mouth so that we can provide you with the most accurate diagnosis and treatment plan possible.

Digital Impressions

Another time-saving technology that we use in our office is digital impressions. Traditional dental impressions are made by having the patient bite into a tray of putty-like material. This material then hardens and is used to create a model of the teeth. While this method is still used in some dental offices, it can be quite messy and uncomfortable for patients. In addition, it can be difficult to get an accurate impression, which can lead to inaccuracies in the final product. Not only is this inconvenient for both patients and providers, but it also takes up valuable time.

Digital impressions are made using an intraoral camera. An intraoral camera is a small, handheld device that takes clear pictures of the inside of your mouth. These images are then immediately displayed on a monitor so that we can get a close-up 3-dimensional view of your teeth and gums. Overall, intraoral cameras are much more comfortable for patients and allow us to get a more accurate picture of your mouth. This means that we can create a more precise dental restoration, in less time.

CEREC 

In the past, getting a dental crown typically required two separate appointments. 

  • First, an impression would be made of the tooth. 
  • This impression would then be sent to a lab where it would be used to create the final product. 
  • The patient would then return to the office a few weeks later to have the crown placed. 

Thanks to CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics), this is no longer the case.

CEREC is a technology that allows us to design and create dental crowns, inlays, onlays, and bridges right in our office. This means that patients can get their new restoration in just one appointment! Not only is this more convenient for patients, but it also saves time. 

The CEREC machine utilizes CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology to create dental restorations. First, an impression of the tooth is taken using an intraoral scanner. This impression is then used to create a 3D model of the tooth on the computer screen. Once the model is complete, it is sent to the CEREC machine where the restoration is milled out of a block of ceramic. The restoration is then polished and placed in the mouth, all in just one appointment!
