Sedation Dentistry

If you experience anxiety when thinking about visiting your dentist, you are definitely not alone! Many patients dread scheduling even a regular check-up. Don’t let anxiety keep you from maintaining a healthy smile! With sedation dentistry, you can get the help that you need while feeling completely relaxed and at ease throughout any appointment – big or small! We offer 3 types of sedation – Nitrous Oxide, Conscious Sedation and IV Sedation.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide is one of the most common forms of sedation. This is one of the milder forms of sedation and is administered through a facial mask. Within minutes of placing the mask, you will begin to feel relaxed and at ease. With Nitrous Oxide, you will be able to respond to your dentist if necessary but will not be bothered by surrounding sounds or smells. Once your appointment is over, your dentist will remove your mask and the effects will wear away within a few minutes. You will be able to resume your normal daily activities following your visit.

Conscious Sedation

Conscious sedation is given in pill form. This oral sedation will begin to take effect soon after it is administered. With oral sedation, you will need a driver to bring you home following your visit. The oral sedation will last throughout your visit and will help you feel comfortable. You may remember little to nothing about your visit and may sleep throughout your appointment. The conscious sedation may take a few hours to completely wear off following your visit.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is administered through an IV and takes effect almost immediately. The level of sedation can be increased or decreased throughout your visit. You will most likely be drowsy and remember little about your visit. As with the other forms of sedation, you will feel relaxed throughout your appointment. IV sedation is often used throughout more extensive visits or treatment.
