Why Do I Need X-rays?

October 3, 2016

galileos_comfortplusWe take your health and safety very seriously. It is important to understand the necessity of dental x-rays and the role x-rays play in providing you with the best care possible. Dental x-rays show us decay, abnormalities, and disease that cannot be seen visually upon patient exam. The need for dental x-rays varies with each patient. Some patients with a history of problems should have dental x-rays as much as every 6 months where as a patient with no history of problems may only need dental x-rays every 12 months to 2 years. Aside from the importance of dental x-rays, we would like you to understand all of the safety measures that are included. Lima Dental Associates takes dental x-rays, their safety, and accuracy very seriously. Dental x-rays require very low levels of radiation exposure. Rest assured we follow the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle in all of our offices. We have taken one extra step in ensuring your safety by implementing digital x-ray technology which emits even less radiation than standard dental x-rays. We use lead aprons on all of our patients as well. A lead apron, with a thyroid collar, protects vital organs from x-ray exposure. Did you know that we were the first in our area to acquire a 3D Galileo imaging system? That’s right! Not only does this technology allow for the most accurate imaging, but it does it with the lowest radiation exposure possible. This system allows us to accurately treatment plan your patient needs as well as it is used for its surgical benefits in implant placement and surgical guides. The images are so precise that we can even send them to other physicians such as ENT specialists for diagnosis of ear, nose, and throat issues and to TMD specialists for Temporomandibular dysfunction problems. We are proud to provide our patients with the safest most accurate x-ray technology available.

Until next time,

Keep smiling, sharing, and caring!
