Tooth Loss Has Consequences

Tooth loss can cause a loss of confidence, a decrease in the ability to chew, and it also creates bone issues that many people are unaware of. I’ve met many people who resist smiling because they are unhappy with their smile, have excessive tooth decay, or because their dentures slip.

The image shown demonstrates what happens to the bone when the teeth are lost. When stimulation is no longer present, the body resorbs the jaw bone.

One option to prevent bone loss and replace one or more missing teeth is to place dental implants. For someone with a full set of dentures, 4-6 dental implants can be placed per arch. This will stop bone resorption and create stability for the dentures. Dependent upon the patient’s needs the denture can remain removable or be permanently screwed on to the implants.
