A – Conscious sedation, also known as oral sedation, is administered in pill form. Before your appointment begins, you will be given the oral sedation and it will begin to take effect within a few minutes. Once the sedation is fully in effect, you will not be bothered at all by surrounding sounds or smells. However, you will be able to respond to your dentist if necessary. With oral sedation, a driver is needed to take you home following your visit.

A – IV Sedation is administered through an IV and takes effect almost immediately. The level of IV Sedation can be adjusted throughout your appointment. As with oral sedation, you will feel relaxed and at ease throughout your entire visit. Once the IV is removed, the effects of sedation will begin to wear away.

A – The most common form of sedation is nitrous oxide and is administered through a facial mask. This type of sedation is mild, but very effective. It can also be safely administered to children. The effects of nitrous oxide will wear away minutes after removing the mask.

A – Yes! Many patients have been able to address their dental needs with the help of sedation dentistry. Many patients have also been able to regularly attend dental check-ups with the help of sedation as well.
