February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Every February we are given the privilege to visit several local elementary schools and day cares to provide dental education to the children.
Along with brushing and flossing demonstrations, we play a memorization game with the children. No matter the age group, they all love the memory game. Our dental puppet is included at every visit. The kids just love seeing the dragon! We give every child a toothbrush packet that includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss.

By the end of the month we will have visited approximately 2000 children. Typically, schools prepare ahead for our visit. The teachers go over things such as plaque, healthy foods, sports drinks, proper brushing and flossing, and mouth guards. It’s so much fun to visit the schools and children. Our goal is to educate our youth about proper oral hygiene in attempts to decrease the amount of decay that children get.

We are also hosting another big event for the children this month called Give Kids A Smile. Thursday, February 23rd, Lima Community Dental is excited to take part in a Nationwide effort to provide FREE dental care to our area children under the age of 14 with no insurance. Our Ohio State Dental Students in conjunction with several volunteers will spend the day providing this free service to children in our community. If you know of a child that could benefit from this program, please call 419-222-0693 and ask about Give Kids A Smile Day. NO Walk Ins will be accepted.

As always,

Keep smiling, caring, and sharing
