Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a great option. It can be used for patients of all ages with few side effects. Inhalation of the gas creates a euphoric effect and increases the body’s threshold of pain.
Another great sedation option is non IV sedation. Non IV sedation or Oral sedation is one of the most available methods of conscious sedation dentistry. A variety of single and incremental dose protocols are used to medicate the patient as early as the day before treatment. The sedative effect allows more treatment to be completed in fewer appointments
And finally, IV sedation is quickly becoming the most popular form of dental sedation. It is often associated with surgical procedures at the dental offices such as removal of wisdom teeth or placement of dental implants. Just like other forms of sedation dentistry, IV sedation is designed to relax you and make you completely comfortable while also eliminating anxiety and pain. IV sedation can benefit those who have a sensitive gag reflex, difficulty sitting for long periods, difficulty staying numb, and several other anxiety associated issues. Patients have very little memory of the appointment. Of course, we monitor all forms of sedation very closely!
The best way to determine which form of sedation is right for you is to consult with your dental provider. Lima Dental Associates will guide you every step of the way.
