Did you know that some of the most common dental issues can be a sign of further dental problems? It’s important to visit your dental professional to determine the cause of your dental problem and treat it properly.
What causes dental sensitivity? Sensitive teeth occur when the second layer of your tooth is exposed. The dentin layer of the tooth is full of tiny channels called dentinal tubules. These channels allow stimuli to reach the nerve in the teeth. Some causes of exposure include brushing too hard, tooth decay, recession, cracked or broken teeth, grinding, and even age. There are several treatment options for sensitivity. We recommend visiting your dental professional to ensure correct treatment.
Dry mouth also known as Xerostomia is a condition where the mouth becomes very dry. Reduced salivary flow is typically caused by medical conditions and side effects of medications. The problems that are often associated with dry mouth are sore throats, difficulty swallowing, change in speech, and sometimes even burning tongue. Patients become more susceptible to gum disease, cavities, and bad breath with decreased saliva. Treatments vary depending upon the cause of dry mouth.
Halitosis also known as bad breath is another common dental problem. Gum disease, cavities, oral cancer, dry mouth and bacteria on the tongue are just a few of the dental problems that can cause bad breath. Mouthwash will temporarily mask the underlying problem- but this is no solution. We recommend seeing your dental professional for further evaluation. Sometimes the solution can be as simple as brushing and flossing 2 x a day!!!
