Are You Happy With Your Smile?

August 8, 2016

Some of the most common questions in dentistry are “How can I close this gap between my front teeth?” and ” Is there a way that I can change the shape of my front teeth?” The answer is YES!
Many people are unhappy with the shape and color of their teeth. As a matter of fact, chipping a tooth is a very common occurrence. Cosmetic dentistry has the answer. Options to change the shape of teeth and repair chips include bonding, crowns, veneers, and re contouring are available at Lima, New Bremen, and Spencerville Dental Associates.

dreamstime_s_31425511Bonding is a process where a white resin material is molded and shaped to the desired shape on the tooth. It is then sealed and hardened with a curing light. For small chips and spaces this is often the easiest solution to the patient’s concern

Crowns are a tooth shaped cap that is placed over the top of the tooth. The tooth must first be ground down to allow the crown to sit over the top of it. Often crowns are used when a significant amount of the tooth is damaged or missing.

Veneers are very thin porcelain shells that are made in a dental lab and are placed over the front surface of the tooth. The tooth has to have minimal prep because the porcelain is bonded directly to the surface of the tooth.

Sometimes correction doesn’t require restorative work. Re contouring is the simplest of all the options when it comes to changing shape of the teeth. This simply means that the shape of the teeth is changed by removing small amounts of enamel. Length, shape and tooth appearance can all be adjusted in this manner

Another option may be orthodontics. Spaces and rotations can be corrected by moving and guiding teeth into their proper position. We offer Clear Correct which is  clear retainer style orthodontics. Not only are teeth more aesthetically pleasing when they are in proper alignment but they are over all healthier because the ability to clean and care for them is easier.
